Nights With Tiki La La (Ainsley Farrell + Lawson Hull)

SUBCULTURE? presents Nights With Tiki La La on October 14th from 7pm with Sydney-based artist Ainsley Farrell, off the back of her album release 'Dirt' and Long Jetty local, signed with Nettwerk Music Group (US/Canada) Lawson Hull

Ainsley Farrell

Ainsley Farrell is a Sydney-based artist from the United States. After a slow trickle of single releases throughout the past year, Ainsley Farrell has released her anticipated album, Dirt, on June 8th. The album has garnered huge support from national and community radio across Australia. It was made Album of the Week by FBi and 2ser radio. The first single, ‘The Way Back’, made it to Top #6 on Double J Radio’s Most Played Tracks. The music videos for ‘Fireworks’ and ‘Buffet’ were featured on Rage and MTV Australia. ‘Dirt’ explores themes of anxiety, loss, and restlessness, to violating men, existential crises, and complicated relationships. The album was recorded with Tim Harvey (Jade Imagine, Emma Louise, Lisa Mitchell, Aldous Harding) on the NSW central coast.

Farrell’s 2017 Dark Hours EP received airplay from radio stations all around Australia, includingnational station Triple J. Farrell was named FBi Radio's Independent Artist of the Week following her first single release ‘Lady Long Hair’. In 2018, her song ‘Dark Hours’ was featured in the Netflix documentary, Afflicted.Farrell showcased as an official artist at SXSW in 2018. She performed for Sounds Australia followed by a tour around the U.S., playing Sofar Sounds in NYC. Her single ‘Walls’ was one of FBi Radio’s Most Played Tracks of 2018. The single also gained support from Triple J and Double J radio. In 2019, she performed as an official artist at Bigsound. She has supported Australian artists Julia Jacklin, Stella Donnelly, Middle Kids, Angie McMahon, and New Zealand artists Nadia Reid, Jess Cornelius, and Merk.

Lawson Hull

Australian singer and songwriter Lawson Hull merges fascinating prose with cinematic production and artful songcraft on his 2021 EP, Hangin’ Out with Cowboys [Nettwerk]. Personally, he’s “not much for wearing cowboy hats – still working up the courage.” However, much like the title suggests, he’s got a few friends who are. This body of work bottles the expanse of the Outback’s breathtaking vistas into robust guitars, dreamy beats, and chantable hooks. With a little poetic license and tasteful embellishment, Lawson’s deft and dynamic storytelling brings these tracks to life with all the gusto of a classic flick. Inspired by a range of artists from Bon Iver to Bombay Bicycle Club, Lawson first gained attention when his song “Paint” gained millions of Spotify streams. In 2020, he signed to Nettwerk and released his acclaimed debut EP, Dreaming Is Easy

This New Light with LOVELOVELOVE + Joel Leggett @ Tiki La La in Long Jetty

This New Light (live) in Long Jetty this September with support from Brisbane's LOVELOVELOVE & Central Coast's Joel Leggett.

This New Light is an indie-folk music project based on the Sunshine Coast, Australia. With a debut EP release experiencing a positive response in early 2019, Samuel Ayling moved on from a previous collaboration with long-time friend and musician, Tom Logan, to pursue his musical aspirations as the sole songwriter for the project. In the later months of 2019, This New Light released the single, 'The Other One'; a song of vulnerability and introspection that explored a more experimental sonic palette than what we'd heard previously. Ayling has since released his sophomore EP 'you, all along', and was excited to tour the record in early September of 2021. With each show selling out on this debut headline tour, Ayling also locked in a festival slot at Road Trip Festival, playing alongside the likes of Hollow Coves and The Dreggs. In 2022, Ayling has begun releasing new music towards his third record titled 'maybe i forget'.

Nights With Tiki La La (Fig + Ruby Archer)

SUBCULTURE? presents Nights With Tiki La La on September 15th from 7pm with South-Coast Indie group FIG, and Central-Coast Local Ruby Archer

FIG - (@figband) The band initially started as a writing and recording project of vocalist Tim Burnett, after he threw out his digital recording process, and began experimenting with tape machines and older analogue gear. One by one, new and old friends joined to help bring the project to life. The result, Fig's debut album Harumi Hotel, was released in 2020 to much local acclaim.

Having played numerous sold out shows around Sydney, including at the Factory Theatre, Marrickville Bowling Club, and the Lansdowne, Fig is set to return in 2023 with music that digs deeper into 80s pop and rock; recalling the quirky electronica of Mark Mothersbaugh, the beautiful dream-pop heights of Beach House, and the pulsing drive of Springsteen’s ‘Born in the USA’.

RUBY ARCHER - (@ruchyarcherrr)
18 year old singer-songwriter from the Cenny Coast NSW who creates angry, jazzy rock with feminist undertones & husky vocals. I reckon the power of music is one of the few magics in this world, and the way it connects people is something sacred. I like to use this gift of the groove to convey my subconscious to anyone who cares, or anyone who doesn’t and just likes the sound of my music. So that's me, you should come see me and my band play - “Ruby and the Groovy Doobies” and boogie with us, we’re fun as. And yeahhh hope you like my shit aye, have a good one :)

Deadshowws + Mac The Knife + Voider @ Mumbo Jumbos

Deadshowws are even blends of self betterment and self deprecation, smoothed over with an anthemic energy that brings gig goers back time and time again. Their mix of overdriven power chords and delicate ambient lead lines prove to create a unique experience for everyone. Bringing together a solid blend of influences including Violent Soho, Narrow Head and Pandamic, they want to continue to bring their music to new audiences and have a positive effect on people’s lives

Following a massive 2022 which saw them embark on two headline East Coast tours, as well as supports alongside Spiderbait, Dear Seattle, Raave Tapes and Bakers Eddy, and a slot on December’s Rolling Sets festival, Deadshowws aren’t stopping in 2023

Having already played a slew of shows this year, including supports for British India and Ocean Grove, the band have landed a national support slot for Dear Seattle, have just completed a NSW headline tour, including the first ever Deadfest and are very excited to announce their next tour the ‘Take My Hand’ tour across NSW. With some brand new songs on the horizon, Deadshowws will be shredding through some new shows and tours heading into the new year.

He carries a voice that is deep and rugged and a palpable confidence that is drenched in a style all his own.
