Interview with DELIEVERY! — Post-Punk/New Wave Meets Melbourne Garage, Taking on Europe!
Delivery, a quintessential Melbourne DIY project, is a five-piece band formed by members from other local groups like Future Suck and Blonde Revolver. Following their debut 7″, Yes We Do, they released a double single, ‘Personal Effects/The Topic’, and now they’re back with 'Digging The Hole'.
We caught up with them to chat about their upcoming tour plans, performing in Europe, influences, production, and much more!
Their latest work continues their signature blend of garage, post-punk, and new wave — The band's distinctive vocals, shared by three members—Bec, James, and Lisa—create a seamless and dynamic harmony.

Hello DELIVERY! — Who do we have today and where are you writing to us from?
Bec (bass + vocals) and James (guitar + vocals), currently cruising the highways of France en route to Paris for the start of our tour and the Olympics opening ceremony.
Well let’s dive in here – Firstly i’m loving the new release ‘Digging The Hole’, what can you tell us about this new release, how did it come together, and are you working towards releasing an EP/Album etc?
Glad you’re liking the track! Nice to have a new one out. It’s a rock and roll song with a very clever metaphor about digging holes - digging holes ain’t always a bad thing, you know! Began with a demo that I (James) made pretty quickly, and then got whipped into shape and thoroughly road-tested by the band. We have grand plans for what’s next, but for now you only get this one.
How did Delivery form, and come to be?
Started in our bedrooms but then became a real band on stages. We like to rock.
I’m a new listener, but are you still based in Australia, or Internationally these days?
Based in Melbourne/Naarm, but like going overseas.
Who are you working with for Production / Mixing for this new batch of releases?
We’ve always liked to keep things pretty DIY in Delivery, which has meant that we’ve always self-produced our music and the first releases were mixed by our dearest Sam Harding who was playing in the band. We’ve broken tradition a little this time around with Jonathan Boulet mixing ‘Digging The Hole’, but that was an easy exception to make.
Who worked across the Creative / Single Artwork for ‘Digging The Hole’?
James Devlin is our go-to. He is very creative, well noticed.
How has the sound / direction developed and grown from your 2022 record to ‘Digging The Hole’ and what’s to come?
It hasn’t. Hopefully people liked the 2022 record because we’re in big trouble otherwise.
I can see that your 2022 album ‘Forever Giving Handshakes’ was released via Spoilsport Records – How did that relationship come to be, and what can you tell us about that label?
Spoilsport Records rule, one of the top record labels in Aus, potentially the world. Sam Lyons who runs the label is a good friend and he has great taste, so naturally he signed Delivery almost instantly. He also values the important stuff, and the Spoilsport community is the best.
As being an Australian band, although primarily touring and playing shows in the UK/Europe – how does that feel and translate (i say this because a lot of garage underground indie music translate and do alot better over there than here i would say)
Feels great! Definitely seems like the Euro crew gravitate towards this kind of music which is handy for us, and they also like to party which is fun. That said, we love playing in Melbourne and around Australia. We’ve been very fortunate to play some amazing shows around the world so far, but Melbourne has the best music scene on the planet.
What has been the most memorable show or tour in the past few years?
We were lucky enough to play in the ‘Sup for Golden Plains 2023 and it was a dream come true. Binic Folk Blues Festival in France might give that a run for its money though.
What’s coming up for Delivery for the remainder of 2024?
Lots of shows! Next big Aus ones are our single launches - Aug 31st at the Curtin in Melbourne and Sept 6th at the Trocadero in Sydney. Can’t wait!
We enjoy giving back and supporting emerging artists, bands, or creatives from your local community back home or wherever your based now. Are there any you'd recommend we check out from your local communities?
We’ve got so many favourites so maybe we’ll keep it to a few recent ones. Loving the new albums from Snowy Band and Program, the new single from Miss Kaninna, saw Dragnet the other week and their new stuff goes off. Honourable mention to Dom Sensitive who isn’t from Melbourne but should probably move.
