Q&A with Wagga Wagga Based Band, Barr-Nun
Emerging onto the punk music scene with an electrifying resonance, Wagga-based band Barr-Nun has released their latest track, "Be Like You (u.who?)." This hard-hitting skate punk anthem encapsulates the struggles of identity within a toxic relationship, delving into the emotional rollercoaster of breaking free while still feeling the pull of that toxic connection.
Barr-Nun's "Be Like You (u.who?)" is a piercing reflection on the confines of identity and the trials faced during and after a tumultuous breakup. The song's first verse captures the sense of liberation that follows a rough separation, highlighting the freedom from identity constraints. The second verse delves into the intricacies of moving on from a toxic individual, all the while grappling with the persistent feeling of their presence being essential, despite the detrimental nature of the relationship.
The heart of the track lies in its infectious chorus lyrics, penned by Joshie Barr. The vibrant interplay of the punchy drums, masterfully handled by Paddy Prest, and the searing guitar solo, skillfully executed by Lachie Burton, adds depth and dimension to the song, creating an irresistible sonic experience.

We caught up with Barr-Nun for a quick chat!
What is the meaning behind the band name Barr-Nun?
Hahahaha. Well, our old music teacher suggested it to us! It is the common phrase of, “bar none”, which means no exceptions when referring to something as the best! We loved the name and decided to create a nun which you would find in a bar giving the name Barr-Nun.
How would you explain Barr-Nun to somebody that's never heard your music before?
Five lads who are all different, creating aussie punk skate sounds!! Think Amyl and the Sniffers mixed with the Chats.
What is the meaning behind the song title, "Be Like You (u.who?)?
“Be Like You (u.who?)” is about coming out of a toxic relationship and wanting to move on whilst you feel like you can’t! It also is about hanging with the mates drinking at the pub.
What were you listening to collectively as a band when writing the new single?
We wrote “Be Like You (u.who?)” a fair while ago but I can definitely remember listening to early Spacey Jane and heaps of King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard.
What is cooler, skateboarding or surfing? Explain why.
Surfing because you’re shirtless, but to be able to skate is also really cool.
Are there any underlying meanings behind the new single?
Yeah— in the intro we recorded just some common pub banter. If you listen closely, you can hear Joshy ask a very debatable question, “Pub Squash or Passiona?”
Where can we catch you performing next?
You can catch us playing at the Jungle Duke Hotel on the 14th of October, just after the release of “Be Like You (u. who?)”
If your music was a meal, what meal would it be?
A steak sandwich with a side of chips and passiona.
Who are some artists or bands from your local scene that you want more people to be across?
Definitely Wagga band Gone Fishing. They are such incredible musicians and can really write a tune. Also, bands such as Social Afterparty and the Filthy Rocks.
Any last words?
Enjoy “Be Like You (u.who?)”
