Rum Jungle announces Regional AU Tour + Interview

We sat down with Rum Jungle, and had a chat about their upcoming extensive regional tour, After touring the United Kingdom and Europe and releasing their single ‘Did The Morning Let You Down’

The Newcastle-based four-piece band will visit 22 cities across Australia, including Adelaide, the Gold Coast, Wagga Wagga, Townsville, and Torquay — The tour follows the release of their latest single "Did The Morning Let You Down" and their hit EP "Hold Me In The Water," which saw them reaching new heights by selling out their biggest shows in capital cities and recently in the UK.

Hello Rum Jungle! How are you, and where are you currently?

Currently Im in my home studio freezing cos my little heater doesn’t do a whole lot. Lucky to even have a heater though ay.

Awesome to hear that you will be touring around Australia this July! What are you looking forward to the most about this tour since it’s primarily regional?

I think seeing some places we havent been before. Absolutely keen to get back to places we have been but such a mad part of touring is seeing new places. So Im keen for heading up further north than we ever have into Queensland. Think we’re going inland to Wagga Wagga which should be sick. Actually, now I think about it, I’m keen for the drives cos when you’re only doing East Coast it’s just endless highway and exits so some new sights should be sick to see.

Have you toured to any of these places before? And if so, what would your experience like?

Yeah we’ve been to a bunch of spots before. Torquay was mad last time, some heaps nice Pho there and water. Same with Avalon, such a sweet spot with sweet water. I could probably rattle off every single place we’ve been and easily say it’s been the best like the Marlin in Ulladulla, up the Marlin. Or anywhere is Tassie is a dream. Cant wait to see the West Coast like Margs River. I’ll be here all day.

How will you pick the supports for the AU Tour coming up?

We’re keen to get some local acts in each town to come along if we can make it work. Otherwise some acts we’ve been frothing state by state we’ll get to come along whoevers free. Once of the best parts of touring is doing it with other bands and meeting more sweet people.

What can Fans expect from these shows?

Four lads stoked to be in your town, playing a couple tunes you can dance to, sing to or have a cry to. If we could set off fireworks and have a stadium light show at every town we would but at the heart of it it’s just four mates keen to make some more mates and have a good time.

What has been the most memorable show or tour in the past few years?

Hard to say exactly. There’s been so many I’d almost forget so many but maybe one would be the Best Night Ever at the Miami marketer. Was the last show of the tour and we were rattled. All my gear was half broken like my power was busted had to get a mate in the Goldy to source me a last minute power bank. Then just as hundreds of people are filing into the room my guitar isnt working. Somehow pulled through and it was a sick show but definitely memorable for being a wig out.

What are you go-to songs / records to listen to in the van and or car during a tour?

Usually it’s one of the other lads on the aux like Maje has a playlist that gets rinsed pretty often. Fraz and Josh always put a Parquet Courts album on so even thought I’ve never played it myself I pretty much know it front to back. I’m sure we’ll find some new song and albums on this next tour.

What are you pre-show rituals?

Asking what each of us are grateful for, couple hugs, and a couple ‘love ya’s’.

Do you stay healthy on-tour, or do you let the road take control?

Hard to say hey. Last regional tour was a blow out that ended up costing us more than a few thousand. Dont remind our manager. We kept it alright on the EU/UK tour, the other lads got a bit crook but kept it together pretty well. Guess we’ll just see on the night and think about our actions in the day.

This question is more for me, than anyone else but how did you meet Tasker, and how did that relationship grow? PS.. To the Readers: Tasker is a dear old friend of mine, and a very good producer

I think it was Maje who met him originally out the back of Splendour while Maje had had a huge festival. Think they hit it off and when we were working on Make It Ez we decided to take it to Tasker to work some magic. Work some magic he did and the next thing I remember is waking up the next morning. He’s the sheriff.

We enjoy giving back and supporting emerging artists, bands, or creatives from your local community. Are there any you'd recommend we check out from your local communities?

Yeah for sure. Check out Chain Daisy, Finlay Ross, dust, and Dipodium. Whole heap of mad acts coming out of Newy, shame there’s so many live venues shutting down.

Thanks again!
