What’s the meaning behind your name, “Poetic Chaos”?

We have found a way to write the kind of music that we want to write - with complete creative freedom and expression that resonates deeply with us. We use a lot of metaphors and are thought-provoking with our songwriting. Jade says the chaos comes from Clara’s room haha. But, in all seriousness, we found the poetry in our music and the chaos in our day-to-day lives. Poetic Chaos has been there the entire time...waiting, we just hadn’t seen it yet.

Where does Poetic Chaos draw its main inspirations from?

We love and are obsessed with artists such as Boygenius, Phoebe Bridgers, Lizzy McAlpine, Billie Eilish and May-a. All of which are incredible and empowering female artists that challenge the listener by writing about inner struggles. They all make you feel something with their beautiful and dark musical styles/ topics.

What does Poetic Chaos hope its listeners take away from its music?

Much like our musical inspirations we hope to push the boundaries on difficult emotions. We want people to really allow themselves to feel those often unwanted feelings. It is much easier to ignore and pretend everything is okay but, more times than not, we are struggling with the pressures to always be happy. We want to make feelings of uncertainty/anxiety present - without them we wouldn’t have art and expression.

What genre(s) would best describe your music?

The genres that best describe Poetic Chaos music is indie/acoustic/indie-pop.

How do you come up with themes for your songs?

Most of the time we are feeling a certain way about something and it’s so overpowering in our lives that the only way to release those feelings is to write them down/ talk about them with each other. More often than not, we are both thinking and feeling the same thoughts. Writing ‘Before January’ reminded us that we don’t have to make a new year's resolution to make our dreams come true. We can change our mindset now and release the music we want to. So we self-produced the song and released it in November last year, pitched it to STELLA DONNELYS management and ended up supporting her in March of this year. Honestly, a dream come true!

Can you elaborate a little more on the meaning behind your latest release, “Pool of Flowers”?

‘POOL OF FLOWERS’ is a song about self discovery. The imagery of this song is based around your deepest darkest thoughts and emotions - everything that scares you about yourself. Everything that challenges you to question ‘why am I feeling this way’. Whilst writing this song, we placed ourselves in a dark maze with mirrors everywhere because the uncertainty of a maze is daunting and even more so when you are faced by your own reflection. With your reflection comes negativity and feelings you often suppress however, with darkness there is light. We wrote these lyrics in the bridge “but I opened the door, let myself feel it all. I saw a lighter pool of flowers” to remind us that we may be feeling lost and scared but we have each other to get through.

Can you elaborate on the artistic choices for your music video? How have you been enjoying the tour so far?

The ‘POOL OF FLOWERS’ music video was inspired by the desire to create a one take shot that shows the struggle both visually and emotionally. We really wanted to capture something raw, something to show the imperfections that are present in a one-take video. The thought that life isn’t perfect and neither is art comes to mind with this style of video. This song represents dark emotions with light connotations, it makes us question ourselves and pushes us to connect with our most inner thoughts to hopefully help us understand them better.

Do you have any plans that you’re excited about for the future?

We have potential plans of travelling to Europe to perform a few shows at the end of this year. We would also love to grow our audience within the MEANJIN music scene and connect with all the awesome artists around this area.
