Tucker Zimmerman - Dance of Love via 4AD
Belgium-based, American-born singer-songwriter Tucker Zimmerman releases his eleventh studio album and label debut, Dance of Love, today an album produced by Big Thief, who additionally worked as his backing band on this record
Earlier this week, Zimmerman unveiled the focus track, "Lorelei," which opens with a catchy guitar lead and showcases his warm, earthy vocals alongside Big Thief’s Adrianne Lenker. The two alternate verses and harmonies seamlessly, creating a rich musical dialogue. Zimmerman explains the inspiration behind the song: “I’m flipping the script on Lorelei. No more luring sailors to their doom. This time, she’s heading for the hills with a silver harp, bringing peace to the world.”
Zimmerman's career, spanning over 50 years, has been a sonic journey through folk, 12-bar blues, full-band rock, and classical piano, all shaped by the people, places, and sounds that have influenced his life. His discography is a personal and profound musical memoir.
Though he has often flown under the radar, Zimmerman has earned admiration from his peers, including Big Thief’s Lenker, who calls him “one of the greatest songwriters of all time.” Even David Bowie once lauded Zimmerman as “too qualified for folk” and included his 1969 debut, Ten Songs, in his list of 25 favorite albums. Inspired by Lenker's praise, Zimmerman returned to the U.S. to record Dance of Love with Big Thief, Zach Burba, and Mat Davidson as his backing band. Lenker’s vocals blend with Zimmerman’s in beautiful harmony across several tracks, while his wife, Marie-Claire, whose image graces the album cover, adds her voice to the chorus.
Dance of Love is a heartfelt, multi-dimensional record that reflects Zimmerman’s rich life, filled with enduring friendships, hard-earned wisdom, and above all, love
